What Los Angeles kitchens said afterwards
4.9/ 5978 reviews
Convection fan started howling halfway through Thanksgiving prep. Worn bearing in the fan motor. He got one the next morning and had it in before the guests, and the kitchen was left tidy.
Fidel M.Woodland Hills
The door started dropping open instead of holding at any angle. A snapped hinge cable, both sides replaced, tension set evenly. Small job, explained clearly, and he was careful with the cabinet front.
Dariush A.Westwood
Ours quit during that 108-degree week and the garage unit was already full. The condenser fan had seized under a mat of dust. Running cold again before dinner.

02 Questions we get first
Asked on the phone, answered here
What does the $89 service call cover?
The visit, the diagnosis and a price for the work before anything is opened up. Approve the repair and the $89 comes off it. Decide against it and the $89 is the whole bill.
Do you handle Viking cooking equipment and refrigeration both?
Yes. Viking builds ranges, wall ovens, built-in refrigeration and dishwashers, and all four are on the list: range work, oven work, built-in and panel-ready refrigeration, and integrated dishwashers.
How quickly can somebody get out to me?
The phone is answered around the clock and work runs 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days. Woodland Hills, Westwood, Venice and Playa Vista sit on the regular route, so a morning call normally lands an afternoon slot.
My Viking range is twenty years old. Is it worth repairing?
Usually. A Viking range is a steel box with serviceable parts bolted into it — igniters, spark modules, valves, thermostats — and the burner castings outlast the electronics by a long way. When a repair is not worth the money we say so on the visit.
Is the call-out more in the evening or at the weekend?
No. The $89 call-out is the same figure seven days a week, inside the 8:00 am to 8:00 pm working window.
Can parts still be had for an older Viking?
The common failures — igniters, spark modules, thermostats, hinge kits, drain pumps, door gaskets — are still supplied. Anything unusual is ordered against the model plate, which normally means a day or two rather than a fortnight.

Pitting, Not Rust: How Coastal Salt Air in Venice and Playa Vista Attacks Viking Stainless and the Connections Behind It
Speckled marks on Viking stainless in Venice and Playa Vista are chloride pitting rather than rust, and the same salt air reaches the spade terminals and igniter leads behind the panels — which is why intermittent faults should be chased at the connections before a board is quoted.

Viking Fridge Warm, Freezer Cold: Read the Airflow First
When a Viking built-in runs warm in the fresh-food side while the freezer stays hard, the cause is nearly always air rather than refrigerant. The four usual faults in order, what you can check safely, and why a Los Angeles summer changes the odds.
04 What we are called for
Four kinds of Viking call
Read the symptom that matches yours. Most of them have two or three plausible causes and one that is far more likely than the rest.
- 01
Range Repair
Ignition, burner and dual-fuel oven work on Viking professional ranges, from 30-inch units to 48-inch tops with a griddle.
- Burner ticks away for a minute before the flame catches
- Low setting blows itself out whenever the vent hood runs
- Flame burns yellow and leaves soot on the pan bottoms
- 02
Refrigerator Repair
Built-in and panel-ready Viking refrigeration: warm compartments, frost build-up, loud fans and doors that have stopped sealing.
- Fridge section sits in the fifties while the freezer stays fine
- Frost sheeting across the back wall of the freezer
- Unit runs without pause and the kitchen feels warm beside it
- 03
Oven Repair
Viking wall ovens and range ovens: heat that misses the dial, dead elements, convection noise and controls that stop answering.
- Set to 350 and the cavity never gets past 300
- Broil element does nothing while bake still works
- Touch controls go dark or ignore a press
- 04
Dishwasher Repair
Drainage, spray, heat and leak faults on Viking integrated and panel-front dishwashers, including door and seal work.
- Water left standing in the tub when the cycle ends
- Film or grit left on the glasses every load
- Puddle appearing along the front edge of the door
05 The route
Four corners of the metro, one van
West Valley to the coast. What breaks changes with the air and the cabinetry, which is why these four are listed separately.
-
91367
Woodland Hills
Ranch houses and hillside remodels at the west end of the Valley, where triple-digit heat pushes refrigeration hard.
-
90024
Westwood
Wilshire Corridor condo galleys and 1920s Spanish houses near the village, most with a professional range wedged in tight.
-
90291
Venice
Bungalows, walk streets and canal-side rebuilds where marine air works on hinges, burner caps and control panels.
-
90094
Playa Vista
New-build townhomes and condos with compact kitchens, integrated dishwashers and column refrigeration behind cabinet panels.
06 How we work
Four things we will not do differently
- 01
One flat call-out, said out loud first
The $89 covers the visit and the diagnosis. You hear the price of the whole job before a panel comes off, and the $89 comes off that price when you approve it.
- 02
Ordered against the plate, not against a guess
Model and serial come off the plate — behind the door on refrigeration, under the burner box on a range — before any part is ordered. On Viking that plate decides which igniter, which board, which gasket.
- 03
Panel-ready units come out and go back
Column refrigeration and integrated dishwashers live inside cabinetry. Getting one out is half the work; putting it back with the stiles unmarked and the door lined up is the other half.
- 04
The van carries what fails in this metro
Spark modules, igniters, oven thermostats, hinge kits, drain pumps and door gaskets travel with us, because in a city that runs its condensers through 100-degree afternoons those are the parts that go.

07 Access
Before the panel goes back
Half of a built-in call is access. A dishwasher has to come forward on its feet without dragging across the floor, a refrigerator column has to leave its cabinet without touching the stiles, and everything has to go back the way the cabinetmaker left it. Two different calls below, at either end of that problem.
